Course Description
|
Students enrolled in Technical Theatre will learn the basic elements of
technical theatre, and they will apply their technical knowledge by helping to
design, construct, and refine settings, stage properties and furniture,
costumes, lighting, and other elements required for an effective performance or
production. They will learn the proper, safe use of tools and equipment, as well
as the importance of planning and other organizational skills. They will learn
to function as members of a team in developing and implementing creative designs
to convey the director s interpretation of a theatrical piece. They will study
the history and development of technical theatre within a variety of dramatic
forms, including comedy, tragedy, and farce, as well as the ways in which the
theatre reflects the culture and beliefs of diverse places and historical time
periods. They will develop a broad base of knowledge of theatrical and technical
terminology and vocabulary.
Students enrolled in Technical Theatre courses must be able to fund
approximately $25-35 for a studio fee, as well as other supplies required by the
teacher.
Prerequisite:
Successful completion of Introduction to Theatre or
(Stagecraft) with a grade of C or higher
and/or prior permission of the instructor.
