Course Description
|
The Naval Science 1 course is the first of a series of four
courses in the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp
program. Naval Science 1 encompasses strong academic coursework complemented
by many extracurricular activities which foster the pillars of
character and citizenship. Students completing this course will
be prepared to enroll in the second course in this
sequence Naval Science 2.
Naval Science 1 will include content in: Introduction to the
NJROTC Program; Introduction to Leadership and Naval Ships;
Mission and Organization; The Nation, Navy, and the People in
American Democracy; Maritime Geography; Sea Power and Challenge;
Naval History through 1815; Introduction to Navigation and Time;
Basic Seamanship; Oceanography; Health Education; First Aid;
and Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Abuse Prevention. The course includes
Military Drill and wearing the NJROTC uniform is required one day each week.
Prerequisites:
Sports Physical Required

Course Description
|
The Naval Science 2 course is the second of a series of four
courses in the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp
program. Naval Science II encompasses strong academic coursework complemented
by many extracurricular activities which foster the pillars of
character and citizenship. Students completing this course will
be prepared to enroll in the third course in this
sequence Naval Science 3.
Naval Science 2 will include content in: Leadership Theory;
Naval Orientation and Career Planning; Citizenship in the
US and other Countries; Naval History 1815-1930; Naval
Ships and Shipboard Evolutions; Naval Weapons: Gunnery,
Guided Missiles and Mines; Navigation Fundamentals
and Rules of the Road; Small Boat Seamanship;
Meteorology and Weather; and Survival and Training
Orientation. The course includes Military Drill
and wearing the NJROTC uniform is required one day each week.

courses in the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp
program. Naval Science 3 encompasses strong academic coursework complemented
by many extracurricular activities which foster the pillars of
character and citizenship. Students completing this course will
be prepared to enroll in the forth course in this
sequence Naval Science 4.
Naval Science 3 will include content in: Application of Leadership Skills,
Naval Operations, Marine Navigation, Shipboard Organization and Watches,
Naval Weapons and Aircraft, Sea Power and National Security, Military Law,
and International Law and the Sea. Students enrolled in NJROTC will practice drill
regularly, and are required to wear the uniform one day each week.

Course Description
|
The Naval Science 4 course is the culmination of a series of four
courses in the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp
program. Naval Science 4 encompasses strong academic coursework complemented
by many extracurricular activities which foster the pillars of
character and citizenship.
Naval Science 4 will include content in: Naval Leadership Techniques
and Principals, Theory of Human Motivation, Group Dynamics, Basics
of Effective Communication, Carrying Out Orders, the Chain of Command, and
practical application of leadership skills. Students enrolled in NJROTC will
practice drill regularly, and are required to wear the uniform one day each week.
Students successfully completing Naval Science 3 and/or 4 may have
enhanced opportunities to earn a NJROTC college scholarship, and
will be eligible for early promotion if they choose to enlist in
the military after high school.
