Course Description
|
This is a course in plant science associated with the areas of horticulture and
floriculture. Students raise plants for themselves and for sale in the school s
greenhouse. They learn how to reproduce plants and make flower arrangements. In
the greenhouse laboratory they will grow poinsettias, mums, and many other
common greenhouse plants. Fifty percent of the class time will be spent in
laboratory activities. Class activities include corsage making, table
arrangements, landscaping, holiday decorations, spring flower and vegetable
production.
Second level students concentrate in advanced areas including greenhouse
management, production of commercial greenhouse crops, landscape maintenance,
advanced floral design, and pesticide safety.
In the third level, students concentrate in laboratory experiences in the
greenhouse, flower shop, and outdoors. Management skills, marketing, and
landscape drawing are also stressed.
The A option is intended to coordinate with the Graduation
Project in extending the research and project development
beyond the typical Horticulture/Floriculture course.
Prerequisites:
Courses must be taken in sequence.
