Course Description
|
Students enrolling in this course will learn and practice the elements of
classical and folk performing styles though the study of note-reading, chords,
basic theory, and basic strum and pick patterns. A variety of guitar literature,
written at appropriate performance grade level, will be practiced, rehearsed,
and performed. In addition to performing, students will develop the ability to
understand, appreciate, perceive, create, and respond to music through balanced
instruction that includes studying works from historical, aesthetic, and
critical perspectives. For Guitar I, previous guitar experience - while
helpful - is not required.
Students enrolling in Guitar II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, or VIII will study
advanced chords, strum techniques,and melodic techniques, in addition to
continuing to develop advanced playing ability.
Students enrolling in any Guitar course must provide their own
acoustic instruments.
Prerequisites:
For students enrolling in Guitar II-VIII: successful completion of
previous Guitar class and prior permission of the instructor
