Course Description
|
Students enrolling in this course will develop the basic skills and knowledge
necessary to perform music alone, in small sections, and in larger ensembles.
Ensembles will be made up of the musical instruments commonly found in the
woodwind, brass, or percussion families. A variety of instrumental literature,
written at appropriate performance grade level, will be practiced, rehearsed,
and performed. In addition to performing, students will develop the ability to
understand, appreciate, perceive, create, and respond to music through balanced
instruction that includes studying works from historical, aesthetic, and
critical perspectives.
Attending and performing in required school and county music programs is
compulsory. Participation in these music programs may occasionally involve
evening or weekend performances. Students will be provided with opportunities to
participate in music auditions, adjudications, and festivals.
Prerequisites:
For students enrolling in their first instrumental chamber ensemble course:
successful participation in an instrumental program at the
middle school level or earlier high school grade level and prior permission of
the instructor
For students enrolling in any other instrumental chamber ensemble course:
successful participation in the previous instrumental chamber ensemble course
and prior permission of the instructor
