Course Description

Students will design and construct art works from clay to create a process
portfolio (which will include a collection of finished art works,
self-evaluations, idea sketches, handouts, notes, and critiques). They will
study ceramic art history, the elements and principles of design, critiquing,
and aesthetics (the appreciation of beauty). Student activities using clay will
include hand building, throwing, decorative techniques, and special clay
processes. An overview of related health hazards will also be included. Students
must be able to fund approximately $15-$20 for a studio fee as well as other
supplies required by the teacher.
In Ceramics II, III, and IV, students will work on increasingly more individual
and independent designing and constructing of clay projects, as well as learning
and practicing more advanced techniques for clay construction, glazing, and
decorating.
