Introduction to Theatre (135170)
Course Description Students enrolling in this course will develop a basic knowledge of theatre through participating in learning activities with a focus on improvisation, theatre games, and performance. They will study the history and development of a variety of dramatic forms, including comedy, tragedy, and farce, as well as the ways in which the theatre reflects the culture and beliefs of diverse places and historical time periods. They will develop a broad base of knowledge of theatrical texts, and they will practice some of the techniques required for successful playwrighting. There will also be emphasis on developing methods of responding thoughtfully to theatrical performances and productions.

Students enrolled in Introduction to Theatre must be able to fund approximately $25-35 for a studio fee, as well as other supplies required by the teacher.

This course satisfies the Maryland State Department of Education graduation requirement for a fine arts credit.
