 October 17, 2007

 Dear LHS Students and Parents,

We are always seeking ways to help our students to achieve as much as possible academically and socially.  Often the greatest growth can occur when students participate in opportunities to work individually or in small groups with their teachers, or in groups centered around a special interest or skill, such as music, the arts, clubs, FFA, NJROTC, etc.  These opportunities usually occur after the official end of the school day.  Frequently, transportation home then becomes an issue which can stand in the way of students participating.

I am happy to announce that beginning Tuesday, October 23, Linganore High School will begin a late bus service for students on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays throughout the school year.  This transportation is available, free of charge, to any student in our school, with parent permission.

The buses will begin loading in front of the school at 4:15 p.m. and leave promptly at 4:30 p.m.  There will be four buses.  Each bus goes to a different area of our school community.  One bus goes to downtown Mt. Airy and the Twin Ridge area.  A second bus goes to the New Market/Lake Linganore/Mt. Pleasant area.  The third bus goes to the Libertytown/Unionville/New Windsor area.  The last bus will go along Woodville Road and other areas in Mt. Airy.  Please note:  These buses do not necessarily stop at individual homes.

Please read the bus routes carefully and check the stop which you feel is best for your child. The permission form may be downloaded and printed.   Complete the requested information and signatures and have your student return the form to his/her first period teacher, or to Ms. Schaeffer in the office.  Once completed and turned in, your student will have permission to ride the appropriate late bus as needed for the remainder of the year.

You only need to sign the permission form once, and your child will be able to ride the bus at any time it runs throughout the school year.  I hope that this service will enable your student to take advantage of every opportunity available here at LHS.  If you have any questions about our activity bus service, please call Tom Kraft at x67857 or email him at thomas.kraft@fcps.org.

Sincerely,

Margaret B. Lyburn

Principal
